On Lake Baikal in Siberia, you can find these piles of broken ice slabs in certain places.
At first I was even of the opinion that this formation in the picture was man-made and not natural, but our guide confirmed that it really is natural. We were also fascinated by the sounds we heard here - cracking, splashing and crunching. The reason for this is surface tension. © copyright by Nick Schmid.
